Oh my gosh...WHAT IS WITH PEOPLE?!?

Ok i live in the province of Ontario in Canada, & the government is going pass a law that bans all pitt/pit bulls (im not sure how to spell it and pitt bulls are a breed of dog) They're going to do that because there have been a bunch of attacks by pitt bulls. It's not the pitt bulls that have the problem, it's their owners.If you have a bad owner you'll have a bad dog. Also, it's not just pitt bulls that attack, any dog will if provoked or is raised wrong.This law will create more problems. Well i'v said what i think about the law i want to hear all your opinions please :)

Interesting update, it's a topic that many other nations face as well.
Is it the dog, or is it the dog’s owner? When the government receives complaints about attacks, it certainly wants to change things for the best. But can the government control the owner? Without spending millions, and imposing on peoples lives, I imagine it would be quite difficult. It would also be hard to distinguish who would be a good owner, and who would be bad owner (If you wanted to selectively sell).
But on the other hand, the government can prevent the sale of pit bulls with a relatively simple ban. It is unfair to the proper owners, but it might be the only reasonable way for the government to handle such an issue
Try to compare it to owning lions. Some people could tame a lion, and make it harmless. Other people could train lions to behave cruelly. Why doesn't your government allow people to buy lions (even if some are not dangerous)?
These discussion can also be extended to gun control, is it the guns, or it the people? People can use guns in a harmless way, others can use guns for crime and murder

look at it from a different view
This is different than owning a lion, because pit bulls are domesticated animals lions are wild. But i get your point. I think that the government should make a law which makes whoever wants to own a pit bull take a test or something to see if they would be a good owner. And/or they should make it so that as soon as somone gets a pit bull they must neuter or spay them and they must be trained well as soon as possible. Also, only breeders should be able to have unneutered/unspayed pit bulls (to keep their population going) They shouldn't ban pit bulls because that's completly unfair. For example, (lets say tehre are aliens) humans are very violent, and some aliens come over and only see the murders and terrorists, but turn a blind eye to all the good people in the world. Then they say "these humans are too dangerous, we should get rid of them" Does this sound fair to you? I think the same things is happening to pit bulls (on a smaller scale of course) It's stereotyping, tehy'r banning the entire breed because some of them are aggressive. Its also halfly not tehir fault. Pit bulls were bred to be fighters, people need to know that so they can know how to handle them. I hope the government will do something right for once. :s

i think it's dumb...
I have heard this many times recently as a matter of fact. I have also heard that they are banning pit bulls because of fighting. So weither or not the owner has raised the dog for attacking people or animals, it's not the dogs fault. I think that they should not ban the dogs in the country but instead they should ban the people who have the mean dogs from having anymore dogs and taking theirs away from them. That is my oppinion. I like the breed of dog and I have met the sweetest dogs that are pit bulls. The owner makes or breaks the dog.

I can not agree with You more Heather. People do not teach Dogs the Pecking Order in the right way, a dog is a social creature, most people can not move their dogs bowl when it is eating, cause they are afraid,. gene

Thats exactly what i mean
Im glad other people share my view of teh situation. I think that its a good idea to ban people who dont know how to handle dogs from havin them. Although if later on tehy prove to be better owners than they were before then i think taht they should get a second chance. Also i think all of you are right when you say that teh owner makes or breaks the dog. If you have a bad owner you get a bad dog. and vice versa

dogs are very social
and loveable. I am actually going to school (college) next year to study to be a Vetrinary Technician. I think it will be the most rewarding thing that i can do. I, for the most part, can relate better to animals. animals cannot talk and they cannot voice their oppinion but they will always be there to listen to you if you need a friend. they will not turn their backs on you unless you treat them badly. i feel i can do so much for animals and they do not get the respect they deserve. that is why i am going to hopefully change the life of many animals for the better. :)

kool! i luv animals. dogs especailly, they dunt care how u look how "kool" you are, they just love you. and theyr perfect wen u feel alone. over march break i'll probably do some volunteer work at the humane society.
